The Misconceptions and Controversies
Being an influencer, especially in the theater industry, has often been seen as a sacrifice of one's artistic integrity. Historically, social media influencers were regarded as individuals who gained followers without any artistic skill or recognition for their talent. In contrast, actors in the theater industry were expected to sacrifice, hustle, and earn their recognition through hard work and auditions. However, it's crucial to understand that there are no set rules in the creative industry, and success stories can happen overnight.
Embracing Social Media and Personal Experience
Initially, embracing social media as an actor and content creator can be intimidating and may lead to a fear of being associated with the influencer crowd. However, by consistently showing up and creating content, you can establish credibility and connections within the industry. Through my personal experience, I discovered that even with a relatively small following, collaborations and opportunities began to arise. It's essential to shift the perspective and understand that being an influencer is not about the number of followers, but rather about consistency, engagement, and growing relationships.
Understanding Platforms and Maximizing Their Potential
One common misconception is that content creators need to be present on multiple platforms simultaneously. However, it is more effective to focus on one platform and understand its unique language and audience. Each platform, be it Instagram, YouTube, or others, has its own set of operating procedures and strategies for success. By observing successful accounts in your niche, learning from their tactics, and adding your own personality, you can tailor your content to resonate with your audience and attract brand collaborations.
The Power of Visibility and Diversifying Income
Embracing content creation as an artist allows you to diversify your income streams. While acting may be your primary focus, being a content creator opens doors to coaching, brand deals, affiliates, and more. By embracing your passion for content creation and letting go of how others perceive you, you can build a sustainable career and support your artistic endeavors. The reality of being an influencer is far from the misconceptions that surround it. By showing up consistently, understanding platforms, and building strong relationships, you can thrive as both an artist and a content creator. Let go of the fear and resistance, embrace your passion, and explore the possibilities that visibility can bring to your creative journey. Remember, there are no rules in the creative industry, so dare to be courageous and creative! Thank you for joining me on this episode of the Creative Visibility Podcast.
