Brand Alignment and Advocacy

Let’s talk about brand alignment. For me, branding has always been about authenticity and values. Many of you know that Disney has been a big part of my branding. The magic, creativity, and timeless experiences that Disney represents have resonated deeply with me. However, life often throws us curveballs that challenge our sense of alignment.

Taking a Stand

authenticity means being true to yourself even when faced with difficult choices. I knew I had to address this issue, both for my own integrity and for the LGBTQ+ community that looks up to me. So, I pressed pause on my Disney-related content until I saw Disney take a stance against the legislation. This pause allowed me to navigate the fine line between brand alignment and advocacy.

Challenging Misconceptions

Addressing this issue wasn't without its challenges. I faced backlash from various quarters – those who misunderstood the distinction between discussions of identity and discussions of sexual acts, and even from members of my own LGBTQ+ community who questioned my continued support for Disney. However, I knew that discomfort often accompanies growth, and I was determined to address this matter with grace and understanding.

Brand Accountability and Authenticity

The beauty of my brand lies in its versatility. While Disney is a significant part of it, I also focus on various other aspects of creativity and visibility. This allowed me to continue creating content that educates, inspires, and entertains, even as I navigated the complexities of the Disney situation.

My journey through the interplay of brand alignment and advocacy has reaffirmed the power of authenticity, resilience, and growth. Through discomfort and challenges, we find our true selves and create meaningful change. As you continue on your own creative journey, remember that your voice matters and your authenticity can make a difference.
